Ruth & Naomi by Guy Rowe, 1949, “In Our Image”
Tuesday, December 4, 2012
As firelight itself, imagination leaps into the remote past over three thousand years ago. The Book of Ruth as a precious jewel is before us the Tuesdays of Advent, a chapter a week. The title of each Firestarter outlines a four-part division of the book.
Ruth is the great-grandmother of David, ancestor of Jesus. From ages past, the Lord has been carefully preparing the cast of characters in the sacred drama of salvation. A foreign woman, faithful to her family, becomes the one the Lord uses in his plan.
About two-thirds of the book is dialogue, making it like a play. Picture the scenes. Feel the emotions of the characters. Mull over the theme of return present in this chapter. Enter the dialogue. Find your longing for Jesus increasing, your joy expanding.
