Psalm 97

Here, in the center of Advent, a joyful cry wells up from God’s people. While taking a stand against Godless people, the psalmist vigorously affirms the liberating truth that the world is subject to the creative power of the Lord.

Two things happen when we enter into the spirit of these ten Sabbath songs, Psalms 90 to 99. First, order occurs in our own hearts with respect to the power of God’s presence in us and in the world. Second, by becoming

spokespersons for all of creation, our faith goes far to restore the proper order of creature to creator, releasing the power of God’s Spirit upon the whole of creation. As the Lord gives you specific persons and circumstances that need your intercession, yield to the Spirit. Become aware of those for whom you need to pray.
