Wednesday of the Sixth Week in Easter, Year B Psalm 67
Nick reads the one-minute Firestarter.
The psalms are such a central part of the life of the Church because they gather up everyone in the human family and pray in an intercessory way. This is especially the case in today’s psalm. The prayer is a global one for all the nations. We intercede for the rest of the nations, which are so often about everything else, but prayer.
It is a fitting psalm for the day before the Ascension of Jesus, King of all the earth. The symmetry of this seven-verse psalm with v. 4 at the center is perfectly applied to Christ the Lord, center of the universe.
Take a map of the world or a globe. Pray over it. Are there any special countries where the Lord wants the Holy Spirit in you to brood upon, with inner groans of prayer?
The Reading for Today
Wednesdays re dedicated to the Psalms,
One a week over the three-year cycle.
God blesses us—our God blesses us!
7 Let God continue to bless us;
let the far ends of the earth honor him.
I find myself getting cranky at emails and similar things that get forwarded that essentially declare that God does not bless America and that there is something that can be done about it.
God blesses us – our God blesses us! Even when we turn our bac on him and live contrary to his laws, the Lord stands right by our side. Oh yes, there are consequences for our actions. There should be. BuGod offers forgiveness and grace to all.
What about countries where evil abounds? As I said, there are consequences for all behavior. Satan is real. We cannot know why some suffer through unspeakable evil, but we can know that in love we need to allow ourselves to be God’s tools. Our hands and words can let his love be known so that the far ends of the earth honor him.
What country does my heart groan for? It groans for any country where people suffer under the influence of evil, where people live in great need, where pain abounds. It groans for any land where people live. It also remembers God’s endless grace and gives praise for the miracles and blessings that happen in those same lands.
