The Piggyback Ride

Touch here for the reading – Isaiah 46:3-13

One of the memories that warms my heart is of my Dad giving me piggyback rides up the stairs at bedtime when I was a little boy. Isaiah has something like this in mind when he makes a comparison between false gods and the true God. Worshipping a false god depends upon carrying around the a statue of the god. For the true God, it’s the other way around. Just like my Dad, God carries us on piggyback throughout our lives.

The Bible speaks to us about how God is. God speaks to you so tenderly in verses 3 and 4 of the reading: “I have carried you since you were born; I have taken care of you from your birth. Even when you are old, I will be the same. Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you. I made you and will take care of you. I will carry you and save you.”

Stop and feel what it is like to have such a loving God carrying you at this very moment, through all the hours of this day, and all the days of your life.

In the season of Advent to Epiphany this year, we read Isaiah chapters 40 to 55.
