At Home with God

AnimFireStarter

As you read God’s Word everyday, you will find that the days have special feelings as each day of the week is hitched to various parts of the Bible. You’ll also find connections between the day’s reading and the ones from previous days. Take yesterday, for example. The wonderful feeling of going home in Psalm 126 is placed next to St Paul’s words today as we catch his excitement about us being at home with God. He tells how Jesus’ suffering on the cross was the link between God and us. Because of the great sins of the people long ago, the human family was cut off from being at home with God. Jesus’s suffering healed that. His arms open wide on the cross are God’s way of saying to us, “Welcome Home!”

The feeling of being at home with God was on the mind of a very holy teacher by the name of Augustine. He lived about 450 years after Jesus. He wrote this beautiful sentence that fits with today’s reading. “You have made us for Yourself, O God, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”
