Pride Gets in the Way

Miracles and healing are happening all around. Thousands follow Jesus and find his words and his touch to bring new life to them. However, off in the corner of the crowds are a group with faces all crunched up in criticism, arms folded, grunting complaints while crowds are cheering. And get this: they want more signs to prove that Jesus is from God. Duh! What more do they need! Yet because they become jealous about the people being more interested in Jesus than in them and all their strict religious laws, these religious leaders become very angry. Their pride and arrogance get in the way of their surrender in faith. There is nothing that Jesus can do that will convince them that Jesus is from God—because they just didn’t want to hear that!

Stubborn people are very hard to change. Let’s pray that you and I don’t become like that. Instead, let’s stay close to Jesus and wait with joy for the wonderful things that Jesus is going to do next in your life and in mine.

Mark 8:1-21
