I believe; please help my unbelief. Mark 9:24
Take a look under the hood of your parent’s car and notice the battery. There are two cables connected to the positive and negative terminals of the battery. Sometimes these connections need to be cleaned so that the electric connection can be strong.
Our connection to God is like that too. Sometimes some “stuff” gets between us and God, like selfish attitudes, resentments toward others, perhaps some fear: all these block the good connection we are meant to have with God.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus points to the need for prayer and fasting so that God’s power of healing can flow through us. Every once in awhile, omitting a meal or offering up that soda or candy can be a way of cleaning and clearing the space between us and God. Prayer and fasting bring to our minds and hearts that only God has power over this world. Prayer and fasting help us to allow the wonderful healing power of God to move through us, helping us to get ready for the flow from the greatest charged “battery” in the universe—God!
