Writings on the Wall of the Heart

The fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the king’s palace wall in the light of the lamp. The king saw the hand that wrote. The king’s mood changed immediately, and he was deeply disturbed. He felt weak, and his knees were shaking.

Daniel 5:5-6

Once again Daniel shines like a precious gem, more precious than all the gold and in the whole Kingdom of Babylon. He was the only one who could read the magic handwriting that appeared on the wall of the king’s palace.

As you read the story, where is the verse that recalls the reason why King Belshazzar would end his reign in disaster? The King is a good example of someone who lost his life because of the misuse of God’s gifts, as we learned from yesterday’s Gospel. Notice how bold Daniel is—totally unafraid of the power of any king of this earth, because he is so close to and loves the King of heaven and earth.

When you place your life against the example of Daniel what do you find? If God were to write a few words about you on the wall of your heart, what would they be?

Daniel 5
