A Miracle for Elizabeth

They were both righteous before God, blameless in their observance
of all the Lord’s commandments and regulations.

Luke 1:6

With Advent this year, we begin the third and final cycle of readings. This year, what we call “Year C” is devoted to St. Luke, the third of the four evangelists.

St. Luke is the one that has the beautiful story of Jesus’ birth told from the point of view of Mary, his Mother. (St. Matthew tells the story with Joseph as the main character) The Gospel begins and ends in the temple. Be aware of how Zachariah and his wife Elizabeth were feeling—to be so old and not have had any children. It’s just too late…like Abraham and Sarah. But God’s got a miracle for Elizabeth just like Sarah. John the Baptist is going to be born from her! Read the story that is the introduction to the even more wonderful story of the birth of Jesus.

Luke 1:1-25
