We once began a gathering of women at our church with a game for them to get to know each other. Each woman placed a photo of herself when she was very young. The others had to guess which picture went with each person. It was hard to do, especially when the pictures were taken when they were very young.
So many changes take place from the time when we are infants to the years when we are adults. Yet with all the change, there is the same person, held together by memories that are like a thread that keeps the beads of our lives together like a necklace.
Changing, yet the same: this is what the writer of today’s passage is talking about when he speaks of wisdom. Likening wisdom to a very lovely woman, wisdom continues along the same lines as last Tuesday’s reading. As a person, wisdom says that she was born before everyone else–that before there was anything at all in creation, there was wisdom. So close is the connection of wisdom with God that wisdom is the second person of the Blessed Trinity—that person of God that actually took on flesh and came into our world in Jesus.
So when you do your homework, let it be God doing the thinking, reasoning. and imagining… and even daydreaming within you! God is very close to you in mind and heart. Let God’s wisdom and understanding become alive in you by the way in which you think. By the way that you think about things, so will you feel about things.

Wisdom welling from within
