Have you every found yourself sulking about something and finding how hard it is to change the mood? Perhaps members of your family have stood about you, trying to make you feel happy again. Sometimes the bad mood and the self-pity are so strong that you just fold our arms, turn your face downward into a sneer and stay stuck.
Imagine this: Jesus has brought Lazarus back from the dead. His sister Mary is so happy about this that she breaks the jar of her most expensive perfume and pours it all over Jesus’ feet. The whole house is filled with the fragrance. But then comes Judas, standing apart from all the joy, sulking and thinking about this “waste.” All he is concerned about is money and how he can get more. He’s unmoved by the beautiful scent.
Incline your soul toward the joy in Jesus, rather than concerns about yourself. Move close to Jesus and let him raise you up from feelings and thoughts that seem to move toward death, and let him fill you with life.
