Hanging onto the Word

Like a magnet, Jesus is drawn to Jerusalem. Yet he knows that the leaders of the city are going to reject him and put him to death.  Rather than fear, Jesus is sad when he thinks about what is going to happen.

But then he becomes angry.  When he arrives at the city and enters the very heart of it, the Temple, he notices how the religious leaders have made a flea market out of it!  He overturns the money tables and sets the animals free.  Jesus is angry at the way his Father’s house is being treated.

Simple, poor people hang onto Jesus’s every word; only he brings life to them.  Each day when you read the Scriptures, God speaks to you. Hang onto God’s words, just as you used to cling to the hands of your mom and dad when you were a little child.

Luke 19:41-48

Fridays are dedicated to the Gospels. This being Year C,
the third year in the cycle, we generally read from the Gospel of Luke.

These Firestarters are from a new edition of The Bible Through the Seasons being developed for families with children. For the Firestarters in the original edition, I recommend the ebook.  You will have the entire program of well over a thousand of these introductions with you on your phone or table! Check the menu options at the site for more information.
