Among the many memories that I have as a young child, one stands out in a special way. I was about four years old. I rose up in front of a mirror and saw my young face. A very strong feeling of gratitude for being alive came over me. “Wow! I’m Alive!”
The writer of today’s psalm feels joy like this. He is just fascinated, not only with the fact that he is alive, but he rejoices in God who created him inside his mother like someone knitting a beautiful sweater.
Take the psalmists words and let them become yours as what he marvels about becomes what you are amazed at as well. Isn’t it wonderful that you are alive?!
Wednesdays are devoted to the reading of the Psalms, one a week across the three-year cycle.
