Mind games: that’s what the religious leaders want to play with Jesus. They try to catch him in his words so that they can bully him just like the wicked farmers in the story that Jesus tells. It’s like a game of dodge ball. Jesus has the perfect skill to step out of the way of their strong throws. He uses one verse to avoid getting caught in their games. I’m sure you’ll find it; his words leave the religious leaders with their mouths gaping open; they have nothing more to say after that.
Everything we have and own comes from God. To give it back means to be very grateful for what we’ve been given. What God gives us is not for ourselves alone, but is meant to be shared as loving gifts to others so that they too can find God.
Fridays are dedicated to the Gospels. This being Year C,
the third year in the cycle, we generally read from the Gospel of Luke.
