Wants and Needs

A flower pushes through pavement, never giving up its longing for the sun and the air.  Jesus tells a story today about never giving up on praying to God for what your heart really wants.  You’ll love the story of a widow who keeps up her demands for having a judge give her justice.  What’s right is right, and she never gives up.

God isn’t like a judge who sits with arms folded, face smirking, waiting for us to keep demanding God to give us what we long for way down inside our heart.   God loves us and desires to give us what we need, which is often not what we want.  Pray to sense the difference between what you want and what you need.

Luke 18:1-8

On Sundays we follow the Gospels from the Revised Common Lectionary.

These Firestarters are from a new edition of The Bible Through the Seasons being developed for families with children. For the Firestarters in the original edition, I recommend the ebook.  You will have the entire program of well over a thousand of these introductions with you on your phone or table! Check the menu options at the site for more information.
