Every Wednesday, we focus on one psalm. Psalm 1 began almost three years ago. With today’s Psalm 145 until the last one, Psalm 150, five weeks from now, every one will be filled with praise of God.
Sometimes the writers of the psalms like to take the letters of the Hebrew alphabet (22 of them) and let each verse begin with the next letter in the alphabet. Today is one of those special psalms. When we sing our ABCs, there is a delightful movement as one letter bumps into the next one. When we come to “Z” we feel complete. In about a minute, we’ve swept through every letter that makes up every word in so many languages.
Today’s psalm writer also delights in finding all the possible words for “praise” in Hebrew. This adds to the feeling of fullness in the wonder and greatness of God
How many words for praise can you find?
Wednesdays are devoted to the reading of the Psalms,
one a week across the three-year cycle.
