Thanks to satellites orbiting the earth, we can zoom out and look at the earth from hundreds of miles in the sky. At night the images reveal those parts of the world where there are great cities with so many lights as though glowing in the dark.
In a sense, the writer of the books of Chronicles zooms out to get a glance at all the kings of Israel and Judah. You will recall that the one kingdom of God’s people had split into two.
Though some of the kings reigned for very many years, when we look at the summary of their lives, their lives seem very short. Against the billions of years that the earth is in existence, their years, as ours, are as tiny points of light against the long stretch of the history of the earth.
As though they are like points of light, you might take some time and jot down the main events and experiences of your life until the present moment. Seeing your whole life at a glance can help you to experience joy and gratitude to God for the gift of your life.
