Love, Forgiveness and the Face of God

Just after my ordination, I was assigned to be a campus minister to college students.  When this came to an end after four years, one of the teachers came up to me with this critical remark: “The trouble with you, Nick, is that you want everybody to be friends.”  “No,” I replied, “but I would like to provide opportunities for everyone to meet at least once.

Because Jacob and Esau didn’t get along, they never fully met each other with the goodness that was really inside of them. Today’s episode in the book of Genesis tells about how they hugged and forgave each other. Listen to the words of Jacob to Esau in chapter 33, verse 10: “To see your face is like seeing the face of God!”
