Writing from the Silence

I like to think that it was the long months of silence in the life of Zechariah that prepared him for the wonderful song he sang when his baby, John, was born.  There’s something in there for us…Keeping silence for a good stretch of time can help us when it comes time to talk

The same thing can be said about writing.  Try this some Advent evening.  Light a candle–or the three on the Advent Wreath–and just relax as you gaze upon these simple flames that say to the dark, “There is light!”  Have a pencil and paper before you. (I like to sit on the floor in front of a little table.)  Just be quiet…pray…be aware of God.  Ask God to help you write from your heart.  Then after some minutes, just start writing whatever comes.  What does come will be from way inside!

 Luke 1:57-80

Fridays are dedicated to the Gospels. This being Year C,
the third year in the cycle, we generally read from the Gospel of Luke.

These Firestarters are from a new edition of The Bible Through the Seasons being developed for families with children. For the Firestarters in the original edition, I recommend the ebook.  You will have the entire program of well over a thousand of these introductions with you on your phone or table! Check the menu options at the site for more information.
