This first of the three years in this cycle of daily Bible reading is dedicated to the Gospel of Matthew-the first of the Gospels. On Fridays-except during Lent and Easter-we’ll read this whole Gospel…usually a chapter a day.
So here we are at the beginning. Like a great puzzle, all the “pieces” of the puzzle from the time of Abraham until Jesus are lined up in Matthew. Some of the pieces don’t seem to fit-like the women on the list who interrupt the list of men, one after another. But God makes them fit His plans.
God does wonderful things with people that don’t seem quite right by some minds; yet God uses them for His own purposes. This is what he did with Mary, the mother of Jesus. Notice how the line to Jesus switches from a man to a woman…for the only father of Jesus is God!
Fridays are dedicated to the Gospels.
This year in the season of Advent to Epiphany we read
the Infancy Narratives of St. Luke followed by Matthew 1-8.
