The hymn “Here I Am, Lord,” continues to be among the top ten favorites of Christians all over. Not only is the melody so lovely, but especially is the power of the repetition of words that Isaiah cried out in his response to God’s call on his life.
Notice when this release of joy in Isaiah takes place; right after all his guilt and shame are burned away by a fiery coal. I’ll bet that must have burned Isaiah’s tongue for awhile…but not as much as guilt and shame burned away within him.
Have you got things for which you are guilty and ashamed? Just open yourself to the fire of the Holy Spirit of love and forgiveness and it will all be burned away like the morning sun thaws out the frost of the night before.
Mondays are dedicated to the prophets.
This year in the season of Advent to Epiphany we read Isaiah 1—12.
