Prayer Driven By Pain

I can’t imagine anyone expressing the pain in their lives as much as David does in this brief psalm.  What saves David from depression and total discouragement?  The psalm itself!  David is not just wallowing in his pain, grief and anger at the way he’s being treated.  All of this takes on a new meaning for David from start to finish because he turns everything over to God.  The energy of his pain drives his prayer.

If you have some pain in your life, let its energy express itself in prayer to the Lord. Then you’ll arrive at the place where David comes in the last verses.  How much David must have felt so much better from that point on!

Psalm 6

Wednesdays are devoted to the reading of the Psalms,
one a week across the three-year cycle.

These Firestarters are from a new edition of The Bible Through the Seasons being developed for families with children. For the Firestarters in the original edition, I recommend the ebook.  You will have the entire program of well over a thousand of these introductions with you on your phone or table!
