There are four parts to this fourth chapter of Matthew. What amazing shifts and changes in them! In the temptations of Jesus in the desert, Jesus resists the kinds of temptations that our ancestors went through in the Exodus—that great journey to freedom. Because Jesus is faithful, wonderful things happen through him and to all those who follow him—like the first disciples that we hear about. With all the power of love that Jesus has, evil and sickness just can’t stand being around him. Many, many persons are healed.
Put yourself into these four scenes of salvation. What kinds of feelings do you have as you look upon Jesus and love him?
Fridays are dedicated to the Gospels.
This year in the season of Advent to Epiphany we read the Infancy Narratives of St. Luke followed by Matthew 1—8.
