It has been a problem since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit: wanting to know all about good and evil. The book of Job picks up this struggle of ours to understand how bad things can come upon very good persons. We keep wanting to pick at the fruit that God tells us not to eat. Only God knows what evil is all about—not us.
What great tragedies come upon Job! We’ll see during Lent how Job deals with them…especially as we’ll read conversations later with people who are so-called friends of Job…but don’t turn out to be very kind at all!
Tuesdays are dedicated to the Old Testament books of history
and the Hebrew “Writings.”
This year in the season of Lent we read selections Job 1—14 and 38.
During Easter we read selections from Proverbs 10—12
and The Song of Songs.
