Keep Quiet!

If you had friends like Job had, I’ll bet you would be turned off by them!  Instead of loving and supporting their friend Job, they question him like police questioning a criminal.  Some of their words are very poetic and have some truth in them—but they are only half of the truth…and you and I know that a half-truth is a lie!

They missed out on doing something obvious when there are around Job” “BE QUIET!”  When we don’t know what to say to someone and we know that that person is very sad and suffering a lot, just be there with the person. You don’t need to say anything!  Silence and a loving hand on the person is really what he or she needs.

I like a Chinese proverb that says: “Don’t speak unless what you have to say is better than the silence!”  I like that.  We don’t need to be uncomfortable when we just keep quiet!

Job 5:8-27

and the Hebrew “Writings.”
This year in the season of Lent we read selections Job 1—14 and 38.

These Firestarters are from a new edition of The Bible Through the Seasons being developed for families with children. For the Firestarters in the original edition, I recommend the ebook.  You will have the entire program of well over a thousand of these introductions with you on your phone or table!
