Bildad is very bad at being kind and understanding to Job. He gets into a long speech that he hopes will tell Job that he’s sinned and that if he confesses his sins, God will be good to him and the bad things happening to Job will stop. You’ll read some verses that are very wise—like pretty plants in a swamp that die when the water dries up. This reminds us of that conversation that Jesus had with the Samaritan woman two days ago.
Bildad just doesn’t get it! What Job needs is not some speech to impress him about how he needs to repent, but someone who would give Job lots of silence…some hugs…just listening to Job rather than talking so much.
Do you give what others need, or sometimes do you too have too much to say?
Tuesdays are dedicated to the Old Testament books of history
and the Hebrew “Writings.”
This year in the season of Lent we read selections Job 1—14 and 38.
