A Favorite Place

When I wasa child, we used to spend vacation in a lovely little town along the coast of New Jersey called “Spring Lake.”  There were lots of little towns like these, all connected by railroad which made the boundaries of the towns on the west.  When we would approach the railroad crossing, my brothers and I would begin to say very slowly in a low voice….”We…are…now…in”  and when we would cross the tracks, we would shout: “SPRING LAKE!”  The sound of the car rolling across the tracks was erased with our shouts of joy.

That’s the way it was when God’s people walked to Jerusalem three times a year.  They could see the roof of the temple shining in the sun and they became very excited. They would sing this psalm a they approached.

What are the places in your life that are very exciting for you to visit?  Why is this so?  If you find fun and joy in the community you see at Church, why this can become one of your favorite places too!

Psalm 122

On Wednesdays we read one psalm each week, usually one after another.  In Lent we take some special psalms together—this year numbers 120 to 124. These are songs that the people sang while on special trips each year to the holy city of Jerusalem.
