The Holy Spirit Clinging to Us

There’s a beautiful hymn entitled, “The Old Rugged Cross.”  One of the lines in the refrain goes: “I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it some day for a crown.”  For St. John, belief means,
clinging to Jesus.”

With the Holy Spirit of Jesus, we can look upon the idea of clinging in another way.   We often describe the Spirit as fire.   When you sit before a fire, you will see that the fire clings to the wood.  So it is with the Holy Spirit.  If we offer our very lives to God, just as wood offers itself to the fire, then God’s Spirit will cling to us.

Spend a few moments in meditation and feel inside you, the fire of God’s love burning as you offer your life to God.
