Bread and Breath of Life

Simon Peter answered, “Lord, where would we go?
You have the words of eternal life. John 6:38

If there is anything that got in the way of our Hebrew ancestors enjoying the presence of God in their journey, it was their complaining.   In today’s reading, the Jewish leaders complain about Jesus.  In both cases, complaining is like putting on blinders; you can’t see what is in front of you.

If you have anything bothering you, rather than complain about it, offer it to the Lord.  Breathe out the complaint, and then breathe in the gift of Jesus who gives us “The Bread of Life,” as well as “The Breath of Life.”

John 6:41–71

Fridays are dedicated to the Gospels.
This year in the seasons of Lent and Easter we read selections from the Gospel of John.

These Firestarters are from a new edition of The Bible Through the Seasons being developed for families with children. For the Firestarters in the original edition, I recommend the ebook.  You will have the entire program of well over a thousand of these introductions with you on your phone or table! Check the menu options at the site for more information.
