The root-meaning of the word “silence” is very interesting. It comes from the ancient root si meaning “To let the hand fall.” This is a simple way of letting seed fall to the ground with your hand. Silence happens when we let go of the noises around us. And so, the word “seed” is like a sister to the word “silence.” Jesus used the idea of seed and the soul in his sermon about the sower sowing seed.
As you read Jesus’ words, let them be as seeds dropping into your silent soul, which is like fresh soil ready for the Word to take root in you so that the Word can bear fruit in your life.
