Standing Before the Future

God’s people have finally arrived near the Promised Land.  The forty-year journey in the desert is just about over.  We come to the book of Deuteronomy which is the final speech of Moses to God’s people.  Moses tell the story once again about all that has happened.  Standing before Moses is a new generation who did not experience the Exodus, the walk out of Egypt through the split waters of the Red Sea. Moses wants to tell the story in such a way, that it’s as though the crowd before him experienced what the Exodus was like.

Stand along with the tribes gathered in awesome silence as they listen to Moses. You and I stand in line with saints who have gone before, and billions today who are God’s children.  As you stand before your future, how about making you own list of what God has done for you? Your personal story is a unique part of the great masterpiece of history as God works to bring freedom to everyone.

I especially recommend the free resource in Matthew Henry’s Commentary.

The Saturday passages follow the reading list that Jewish people use in their synagogue worship throughout the world. They are taken from
“The Torah,” the first five books of the Bible from Genesis to Deuteronomy that are read each year beginning with autumn.
