

Kings and priests are mentioned in today’s reading. Along with being prophets in Christ, you share in all three classes, because you are one with Christ’s risen body.
Since you are a king in Christ, listen to the instructions from Moses as though directed to you. If the future kings of Israel need to read the law every day, how much more must we read, pray, and respond to the Holy Spirit who sets fire in our hearts from the words of Scripture!
17:16 is a strong command:“You must never return to Egypt.” It was tempting for the wandering Israelites to forget that they were slaves in Egypt, when they were hungry and thirsty in the desert. It’s best not to wish that your past was different than what it was. God’s love is always with you, turning the past into grace for your future.
