Never Return to Egypt

Kings and priests are mentioned in today’s reading.  Along with being prophets in Christ, you share in all three classes, because you are one with Christ’s risen body.

Since you are a king in Christ, listen to the instructions from Moses as though directed to you.  If the future kings of Israel need to read the law every day, how much more must we read, pray, and respond to the Holy Spirit who sets fire in our hearts from the words of Scripture!

17:16 is a strong command:“You must never return to Egypt.”  It was tempting for the wandering Israelites to forget that they were slaves in Egypt, when they were hungry and thirsty in the desert.  It’s best not to wish that your past was different than what it was.  God’s love is always with you, turning the past into grace for your future.

I especially recommend the free resource
in Matthew Henry’s Commentary.

The Saturday passages follow the reading list that Jewish people use in their synagogue worship throughout the world. They are taken from
“The Torah,” the first five books of the Bible from Genesis to Deuteronomy that are read each year beginning with autumn.

These Firestarters are for families with children. For the Firestarters in the original edition, I recommend the ebook.  You will have the entire program of well over a thousand of these introductions with you on your phone or table! Check the menu options at the site for more information.
