The Spirit of King Jesus

The journey of forty years in the desert is almost over for God’s people. It’s been so long, that all the people were born in the desert and don’t recall their parents and grandparents suffering when they were slaves back in Egypt.

Moses is very old. He’s giving final instructions to the people. Part of his message is about how kings of the new people that Moses and God are organizing are to behave. We all know how kings and dictators can be filled with pride and think that they are something like gods. So that this will not happen, Moses tells the people to be sure that their kings read God’s Word everyday.

What’s good for kings is good for us! But you know: we are all kings for we live with the Spirit of King Jesus inside of us.

Deuteronomy 17:14-20

The Saturday passages follow the reading list that Jewish people use in their synagogue worship throughout the world. They are taken from
“The Torah,” the first five books of the Bible from Genesis to Deuteronomy that are read each year beginning with autumn.
