The Spirit Sinking into Us

Now may the Lord show steadfast love and faithfulness to you!
2 Samuel
2:6

It’s a big day for David.  With the death of the first King of Israel, Saul, David is now chosen to be the next King.  The call that came from God to him in the First Book of Samuel is finally happening.

However good David was, it’s well to remember that he had his moments of thinking of himself instead of God, as we’ll soon see in this book of the Bible.  But for now, let’s just stand next to David as he is anointed with oil poured over his head.  This was an ancient way of expressing that God is coming into a person, just like rubbing yourself with oil.  The oil disappears into the skin as a reminder that God’s Spirit is sinking deeper and deeper.

You’re greater than King David, for Christ the King lives inside of you.

 2 Samuel 2:1-7
