Following God’s Call

Moses’ view from Mount Nebo

10 No prophet like Moses has yet emerged in Israel; Moses knew the Lord face-to-face! 11 That’s not even to mention all those signs and wonders that the Lord sent Moses to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh, to all his servants, and to his entire land— 12 as well as all the extraordinary power that Moses displayed before Israel’s own eyes!
Deuteronomy 34:10-12

I once knew a family that would spend their vacations searching for the biggest, best and scariest roller coasters in the country.  Imagine what it would have been like for them to drive for hundreds of miles only to find that the amusement park where the biggest roller coaster was, had closed.  How disappointing!
Moses must have felt something like that: to have traveled for forty years, led by God’s promise to lead God’s people to the Promised Land, but not to be able to enter it himself.  He could see it from Mount Nebo, but that was all. It was the consequence of one time Moses complaining about the people! It must have been hard for Moses not to have complained to God about that! What an amazing person Moses was; this last chapter in the Book of Deuteronomy tells about that.  Moses dies on Mt. Nebo.  His mission in life is over.

Like Moses, let’s receive God’s love and power to do what God calls us to do in life.
