King David and a Sad Story

“I’ve sinned against the Lord!” David said to Nathan.“The Lord has removed your sin,” Nathan replied to David. “You won’t die. 14 However, because you have utterly disrespected the Lord by doing this, the son born to you will definitely die.”
2 Samuel 12:13-14

Imagine being the General of an army and you’re staying home while all your soldiers are waging war.  That’s what King David did one day.   “Hey!  Where’s King David?” they must have asked. David was walking up and down on the flat roof of his house with nothing to do.  He noticed a beautiful woman bathing…The reading tells about what happened. It’s very sad.

There’s an old saying that I learned as a boy; maybe you’ve heard it too.  “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop!”  Once again it comes down to doing what God wants or what I want.  When I lose the feeling of joy and happiness because I’m not where God wants me to be and I’m not doing what God wants me to do, then all sorts of thoughts, temptations can come in to fill the empty space in the heart.

Spend a few minutes talking with your family about what today’s powerful story means to you.
