“Turn, Turn, Turn”

There’s a season for everything
and a time for every matter under the heavens.
Ecclesiastes 3:1

We are in the final week of the sacred year; Advent begins next week.  Like a camera’s zoom lens, we step back and feel the seasons moving from winter to fall like the pendulum of a grandfather’s clock.  Back and forth the pendulum swings; back and forth the earth in its yearly cycle turns and tilts toward the sun making summer; moving away, making winter.

In the mid 1960s the song “Turn, Turn, Turn” came out; it became a big hit. This is the most popular song with the oldest lyrics—right from the Bible in today’s reading. As you listen to the song, sense the movement of the words like a great pendulum as the song makes contrasts in life from one side to the other.  Rock back and forth as you listen to Judy Collins sing this lovely song.
