Like a gang surrounding a weak, innocent child, pushing him, mocking him, and threatening him, God’s people found themselves surrounded by enemies. From verse 8, the tender, loving voice of God speaks to God’s beloved people through Isaiah. They are reminded not only of God’s love, but also of God’s power to protect them.
While the words in the Bible were intended for people a few thousand years ago, the Holy Spirit guides us to find out what these words mean for you and me today. We connect with the words, because there’s something going on in our lives that is similar to those who lived so long ago.
It’s a good idea to have a simple notebook by your side as you read God’s Word. You can jot down what pops up in your mind as you read. The Holy Spirit will guide your hand and heart, inspiring you just as God did to all the sacred writers of the Bible.
