The secret of Deborah’s success was in her prayer. She prayed before battle, surrendering her heart to God first and believing that God had already won the victory. Then she sings and prays after battle, returning praise and glory to God alone for the victory. God won, not Deborah or her army. What was important for Deborah was not herself, but God.
From the time we get up in the morning until we go to bed at night, we are invited to be God’s servants, living God’s ways. Like Deborah, let’s pray every morning, recalling verse 31: “May your allies be like the sun, rising in its strength.” As the sun is rising (even if there are clouds!), imagine God’s love and grace filling you so that you can live your day aware of God inside you. If moments come in the day when you think you’re struggling as though in a fight, remember, that the battle belongs to the Lord.
At the end of the day, go back over the hours, thanking and praising God for how God was with you at every moment.
