A nasty situation for God’s people in their new land. Like wrestlers flexing their muscles, the mighty Midianites threaten God’s people and make war on them. What are God’s people to do?
I find the conversation between Gideon and God from verse 15 to be delightful: so open and honest. Gideon says, “With all due respect, my Lord, how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I’m the youngest in my household.” The Lord replied, “Because I’m with you, you’ll defeat the Midianites as if they were just one person.”
There’s the key: God is with Gideon. That’s the only thing that matters. With faith in God, Gideon will step forward boldly against the menacing enemies of God and will win the battles. It’s exactly what happened with Deborah: it’s God’s battles, not hers or Gideons!
I hope you enjoy the story of the woolen fleece that let’s Gideon now that God is with him.
