The hour fast approaches for Jacob to leave this world. He is comforted by the presence of his sons. It is the sacred moment of blessings. Like a torch being passed from one runner to the next, so does Jacob pass the torch of God’s blessing to his sons.
Picture yourself quietly standing there. Beliefs and ways of thinking have been passed on to us from our parents who received them from their parents. It’s important to keep beliefs alive through acting on them. Action will be like fuel to a torch, making sure that we carry a lit torch rather than one with the fire gone out. We say “God bless you,” to someone who has sneezed. We blurt out these words as if they were themselves a sneeze!
Try this. Look at someone straight in the eyes and very slowly say, “God bless you!”
Wow! That will light up the heart of that other person like a torch just ignited!
