Picture David way back in the corner of a cave. He huddles there, hiding from King Saul who’s been chasing him and wanting to do him harm. Saul is jealous of David, because David, so young, is being preferred by God who wants to make David King instead of Saul.
The first thing that David does is pray. He’s scared–so he just turns his fear into prayer. Look what happens! He notices the light at the mouth of the cave. “What am I doing here when I have a God who loves me and who will protect me?” So out he goes into the morning and starts to praise God. Now he’s no longer just being protected by God like a little bird under the shadow of its mother’s wings. Instead he imagines that God is lifting him way up in the air as though in a big balloon where David can see everything in creation and can praise God.
How about you doing the same! Imagine God inviting you for a balloon ride, taking you high over your home, your school, the places where your mom and dad work. Praise God and pray for all those down below–even for the bully at school that might be mocking you like Saul did to David.
