The Pull of God’s Grace

Maybe you’ve heard the expression when someone is successful in life: “He pulled himself up by his bootstraps.”  How can anyone be lifted up by pulling upward on the straps of the boots?  As he pulls up, he is pulled down!

Today’s Psalm says that we can’t get ahead on our own.  From the very first verses of the psalm, from start to finish, we come from God and belong to God.  God is the designer of our lives and the One who gives power called grace, to complete God’s plan for us.  We don’t grow all by ourselves.

The sacred writer also talks about how special children are and how beautiful is the family where there is one mind and heart.  This only happens when each member of the family allows the pull of God’s grace to help each one to grow into what God plans for them. The good you do is really you yielding to the pull of God’s grace.
