When couples ask me to celebrate their weddings, I often suggest that they read this passage. I ask the congregation to imagine that all the ancestors of the couple are sharing this moment from heaven. They behold what is taking place as from a great heavenly balcony that wraps all around the church. The verses of the reading are like very wise instructions from them about how to live a happy married life.
Though you’re not reading this passage on your wedding day, still, your ancestor-saints are watching over you and continuing to love you. They want you to be happy in your life. Like fans in the bleachers of a game who are cheering you on, feel the spiritual energy of their joy in you.
Do you have a journal? If not, buy a little notebook where you can jot down feelings, remembrances, thoughts, etc. Imagine some special ancestors sharing with you their thoughts and feelings about how your life is going. Jot down what you feel they are saying to you.
