Written on the Heart

The rising and setting of the moon and the stars and of course the sun, always take place right on schedule.  The unchanging laws of nature are a sign of God’s faithfulness in continuing to love and nourish us each day.

Jeremiah is impressed by the cycles of nature too.  He uses their steady unchanging laws as a reminder to us of the new covenant, a new promise that Jeremiah announces to God’s people.  Instead of tablets of stone for the covenant of the Ten Commandments, a promise will be written on our hearts of flesh.  God himself will be the teacher of the heart.  Of course we’ll always need teachers to help us and inspire us, but there are some inner laws that God is writing on our hearts so that we will know these directly from God.

Spend some time in quiet thinking about all this and writing in your journal some of the wonderful loving laws that God is sharing with you.  Let your own hand be connected to God as you write something about what God wants to share with you.
