Let’s learn some Greek—the language of the New Testament. The Greek language has two words for time. One is the word chronos which is “ticking time.” The word “chronology” means the list of events in a stretch of time from some beginning point to an end point.
However, there’s another word in Greek for time in a different sense—kairos. We use this sense when we wish someone to have a “good time” at the party. Winning a prize, playing a game, or just having fun: this is kairos time—much more interesting than only the amount of time you spent at the party. Like the game on the boardwalk of throwing a ball at some passing toy ducks to knock them over… You have to wait for just the right moment to throw the ball so that you can hit the duck and win the prize.
Be sure to catch the moment to do good for someone. We can feel disappointed and sad when we miss these chances for kindness. Let’s you and I welcome times for doing good and loving acts to others.
