Simple Acts of Kindness

Giving gifts on special occasions goes way back in our history.  Today we give presents of love on birthdays, anniversaries, on Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and so forth.  In the early days of God’s people, different kinds of gifts were given to God on various occasions too. There were gifts or offerings if you needed peace and gifts to express thanksgiving to God for all the wonders of life.  Some gifts were given to God to assure God that you were going to keep a special promise.

I like the idea of giving gifts that are unexpected.  Here’s an idea.  When you are on a toll road sometime, ask mom or dad to pay for the unknown person in the car behind you.  When you pull up to the tool booth, give the attendant an extra toll and say, “That’s for the car behind us!”  See what happens when the car catches up to you and the driver gives you a funny look, as you smile back in kindness!  Wouldn’t the world be a much better place if we broke out of routine gift-giving and did something special and loving―just a simple act of kindness!

“The Torah,” the first five books of the Bible from Genesis to Deuteronomy
that are read each year beginning with autumn.
