Place yourself in a corner of the Upper Room where the Last Supper took place. Picture in your mind ten of the Apostles all huddled together in fear. They are afraid that the Jewish leaders who had gone after Jesus and crucified him might do the same to them! The windows are all shut tight; the doors are bolted. Suddenly Jesus is standing right in the middle.
Wait a minute! Aren’t there twelve apostles? Yes, but Judas hung himself because he felt so guilty and ashamed that he had betrayed Jesus. However, there’s someone else that isn’t here; it’s Thomas. Where is he? Maybe he said: “I’m not going to stay cooped up in a locked room with a bunch of frightened men!”
Today’s Gospel is a wonderful story of faith, love and joy in Jesus. As you silently sit there in the room and watch what is going on, ask God to let you share in the joy of the Apostles. Live these days in the Easter Season aware of how much Jesus loves you and how much he wants you to feel his presence very close to you.
