This is a YouTube video that links folks from the Matawan United Methodist Church that I serve as Pastor, along with others. I offer this addition on Wednesdays and invite you to comment as you feel led, using the ancient method of Lectio Divina, Divine Reading, as explained in the video.
One of the very sad results of war is the destruction of the pipes that bring water into a city. If you’ve ever been very thirsty and then drink a full glass of water, you know how much all your attention is on only enjoying the water.
In today’s psalm the sacred writer says that his whole being has a great thirst for God. He writes in the name of David who too was probably very thirsty out there in the desert, trying to keep himself safe from his enemies. Yet as thirsty as his body was, it was nothing compared with his soul’s thirst for God.
God has made us to be thirsty for God, to be close to God and to worship God. As you quietly read this psalm, prayed by millions and millions of persons over the years, get in touch with that thirst for God that is deep within. How will you express both the thirst and the joy of drinking from God?
